On his weekly radio show Thursday night, Georgia coach Kirby Smart fielded questions via Twitter about DawgNation’s report that Greyson Lambert will start at quarterback in the season opener.

Lambert fought off competition from highly touted freshman Jacob Eason to retain his job as the Bulldogs’ starter. UGA will meet North Carolina at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.

Last season Lambert played in 12 games. He completed 162 passes of 256 attempts for 1,959 yards, and threw 12 touchdown passes but only two interceptions.

Eason was a five-star recruit from Lake Stevens, Wash., who enrolled in January. Smart also commented on third-string QB Brice Ramsey.

Among the comments from Smart:

“We’re going to start the game with Greyson. He’s done a great job through camp, a very good leader for our team and our program. I’ve got the utmost confidence in both of those guys.”

“Like I said before, Brice Ramsey did a great job in this competition as well. They made it very difficult in the way they practiced and prepared and Greyson has done a good job leading it, communicating it, executing it and doing all those things. Jacob has shown great promise and has continued to improve. He’s done a lot of good things. We’re excited about both those guys.”
