ATHENS — Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm is doing just fine, but the Bulldogs’ beat up offensive line remains a work in progress.

Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart said center Lamont Gaillard and guard Cade Mays were limited in Tuesday’s practice as they continued to recover from the injuries they suffered in the 34-17 win at Kentucky.

Gaillard has a hyperextended left knee, while Mays has a recurring shoulder injury. Smart indicated on Monday he felt both would be available for the Auburn game at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Sanford Stadium.

As for Fromm and the wrap he’s been wearing on his leg, Smart essentially shrugged it off.

“I think he got a bruise,” Smart said. “He got a hit on one of those plays late in the half maybe, but he’s fine. He’s running. He took all his reps.”

Smart said defensive end David Marshall, who suffered a foot injury against Vanderbilt and hasn’t played the past three games, has not returned to practice.

Smart confirmed that junior defensive lineman Michail Carter is back practicing, somewhat cushioning the loss of DaQuan Hawkins-Muckle, who remains out with an undisclosed injury.

“It helps, but (Carter) is a 275-280 pound guy and we need more 300 pounders,” Smart said. “It helps in depth. (Carter) hasn’t been there for a couple of weeks, three weeks, so it’s good to have him back because we’ve been short there.

“Bringing him back, we don’t have to rep Trey Hill over there. We’ve still got Netori (Johnson) working there and all the other guys, but we’re healthier over there than we’ve been the last two weeks.”

Smart also updated the status of freshman Divaad Wilson, saying the defensive back from Miami has been cleared but isn’t necessarily ready to play.

“He moved and started practicing more with us, not with the scouts, (and) that just means he’s cleared to play it doesn’t mean he’s going to play,” Smart said. “He’s got a lot to learn. He’s smart, he’s bright. A good football player. It’s not that easy. You don’t just take however long it’s been for him off. We’re trying to develop him and get him in position where he could play.

“He’s repping at star. He’s working with the twos. He’s taking a lot of reps. The sooner he learns it and he’s able to play, then hopefully he’ll get in that competition and mix it up.”
