Georgia coach Kirby Smart has a good hunch that Florida came up with at least one new wrinkle during the bye week, and he thinks that will be a change under center.

During the SEC coaches teleconference on Wednesday, Smart seemed positive that the Gators would give some playing time to backup quarterback Malik Zaire, and he’s prepared the Bulldogs defense just in case.

“I certainly expect to see Malik Zaire … He’s a good athlete.”

Prior to the season, there was a lot of excitement in Gainesville, Fla., around the potential of the offense with Zaire leading the way. Still, the graduate transfer from Notre Dame hasn’t seen much of the field through the team’s first six games this season.

His only action came in Florida’s 33-17 loss to Michigan in Week 1. Zaire went 9-for-17 passing for 106 yards in that game.

Redshirt freshman Feleipe Franks started that game and the next two games before Luke Del Rio got the start against Vanderbilt. However, he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury, and Franks has started the last two games against LSU and Texas A&M.

For the season, the Gators are 2-3 in Franks’ 5 starts. In those games, he has completed 64 percent of his passes for 800 yards and 4 touchdowns. He has been intercepted 3 times.
