Deshaun Watson just led Clemson to its first national championship since 1981. And that has to sting Georgia fans, since Watson grew just 45 minutes from Athens.

And apparently Watson harbored some harsh feelings to Georgia and former offensive coordinator Mike Bobo when Watson was setting high school records.

And the folks at UGA Football Live dug up an old tweet by Watson when he was a junior in high school criticizing then Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo.

“It’s funny how Mike Bobo don’t think I’m good enough to play at Georgia. Lol.”

Watson won a state championship as a junior for Gainesville High School. At the time of the tweet, Watson was already committed to Clemson. Watson ended up being the No. 1 ranked Dual-Threat quarterback in the 2014 class and the No. 41 overall ranked player in the class.

In the 2013 class, Georgia signed 4-star quarterback Brice Ramsey, who had more punts than passes this season. In the 2014 class, Georgia signed 4-star quarterback Jacob Park, who has since transferred to Iowa State.

Watson was a two-time Heisman finalist and has thrown for more than 4,000 yards and 40 touchdowns in each of the last two seasons. Against Alabama, the Clemson quarterback threw for 420 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for one. Watson also had a punt in the game that was downed inside the 20.

Yet, Twitter never tells the whole story. Bobo and Georgia did recruit Watson after this tweet was posted.

They offered him in December of Watson’s junior year of high school. It was too late to sway him from Clemson, but they did recruit him. DawgNation Georgia beat writer Seth Emerson even recalls seeing Bobo and Watson sit together in the stands at a UGA basketball story.

Georgia went 8-5 this season and was led by 5-star freshman quarterback Jacob Eason. Hopefully Eason can replicate what Watson did for Clemson.
