There’s mixed opinions on whether or not former UGA quarterback Jake Fromm will make the 53-man roster of the Buffalo Bills.

Fromm’s immediate future will be known by 4 p.m. Saturday, as that’s the deadline for the league’s annual “cut day.”

Fromm bypassed his senior season at Georgia to declare early for the NFL Draft, where he plummeted to a fifth-round pick by the Bills. At Buffalo, Fromm was expected to challenge veteran backup quarterback Matt Barkley for the No. 2 job, but that battle never materialized. Josh Allen is the team’s established starter at quarterback.

Instead, Fromm found himself in a duel for No. 3 with journeyman Davis Webb. Among the Buffalo media, there’s widespread opinions on whether it will be Fromm or Webb to make the roster – or if the Bills will even keep a No. 3 QB.

Fromm will narrowly make the team, predicts BuffaloNews.com’s Jay Skurski:

“Fromm never mounted much of a challenge to Barkley for the backup job. In fact, the real competition has been between Fromm and Webb for the No. 3 quarterback job. Webb might even be slightly ahead in that race, but cutting Fromm – a fifth-round draft pick – wouldn’t be a real good look, even if his performance this summer might warrant it.”

The Bills won’t keep more than two quarterbacks, predicts The Athletic’s Joe Buscaglia. WKBW’s Matt Brove expects the same news on Saturday:

“Like many of you, I didn’t foresee a scenario where fifth-round pick Jake Fromm wouldn’t find a way onto the Bills roster. Yet during camp, the rookie failed to impress with his limited reps. There’s a chance Davis Webb could be kept as the Bills third quarterback, but (the Buffalo coaches) have shown in the past they’re comfortable rolling with just two guys. I’d expect Fromm to be placed onto the Bills practice squad if he isn’t claimed by another team.”

From NewYorkUpstate.com’s Matt Parrino:

“It’s pretty simple when it comes to Jake Fromm: he just hasn’t played well enough to warrant a roster spot on Sept. 5. Now the Bills could sit back and think about the potential of losing Allen to injury or Covid-19, and give real consideration to keeping three quarterbacks. But Webb is arguably a better fit as a third passer because of his understanding of the offense and one season of experience (in the team’s) system. Fromm could sign elsewhere but a spot on the Bills’ practice squad could be a comfortable spot to spend his rookie season considering the difficult nature of this season.”
