When UGA plays host to Arkansas State in the third game of the season, the visiting team will likely be without its head coach.

Arkansas State announced on Monday that head football coach Blake Anderson is taking a leave absence to be with his wife, who is battling cancer.

Wendy Anderson was diagnosed with stage 4 triple-negative breast cancer in 2017, and the family said in March that the cancer had spread to her liver, lungs and lymph nodes, per CBSSports.com Barrett Sallee.

Arkansas State athletics director Terry Mohair released a statement on Monday:

“Coach Anderson has decided to take a leave of absence during this difficult time to be with his wife, Wendy, and his family. We will continue to pray for peace for his family and provide assistance any way we can.”

Arkansas State defensive coordinator David Duggan will serve as the team’s head coach until Anderson decides to return.

UGA plays Arkansas State at noon on Sept. 14.
