Now that Tyler Simmons has had a few days to reflect on his UGA visit last weekend, the 4-star receiver gives it rave reviews.

The McEachern High School standout told the AJC on Tuesday that UGA has the lead over Alabama and Texas A&M.

“I would say Georgia has the edge on everyone right now,” Simmons said. “Georgia is a top program and they have Jacob Eason and Bailey Hockman coming in, so that helps.”

Last month, the wide receiver told the AJC that Hockman’s commitment wasn’t going to be one of the biggest factors if he did decide to commit to UGA.

But that has changed now.

Simmons transferred to McEachern from New Manchester High School, and at the time of the interview last month, the two didn’t practice much with each other.

“It does matter if I play with him now,” Simmons said. “There are not many quarterbacks as smart as he is. Playing with him these past couple of months have been awesome. Just seeing him mature and everything, I can tell he is going to be something nice.”

If there is one negative for Simmons with his feelings on UGA, it’s the fact that the Bulldogs already have four commitments at reciever and are chasing more. Despite that, UGA coaches have told him he remains a priority for the team.

“They (coaches) said they are taking a couple of more receivers,” Simmons said. But that’s one downside about that. My dad and I were talking about how many guys can possibly play in a class. They did say they would take my commitment, though. (Wide receivers coach Bryan) McClendon said I am one of his top targets along with Kyle Davis and Demetris Robertson.”

The 5-foot-11, 194-pounder is ranked as the state’s No. 47 prospect. He plans on announcing his commitment in the next couple of weeks.
