UGA picked up a commitment from an All-American recruit just one day after he backed off his pledge from Virginia Tech.

Marshall Long, a punter from China Grove, N.C., announced his choice of UGA via Instagram on Thursday night. Long played in the Army All-American Bowl earlier this month.

The common thread in Long’s commitment is Shane Beamer, the former Virginia Tech assistant who is now the new special teams coordinator at UGA.

Long will have a chance to compete for playing time next season against Brice Ramsey, the UGA quarterback who has also handled the team’s punting duties.
