Ben Davis had a great relationship with Kirby Smart. The nation’s No. 1 inside linebacker also gave his UGA official visit earlier this year a perfect “10” rating.

But that was just not enough. The 5-star linebacker decided on Wednesday that Alabama was where he needed to be. His father, Wayne Davis, still holds the career record for tackles at Alabama, and his son will follow in his footsteps to play college football in Tuscaloosa.

The Gordo, Ala., resident even named UGA his leader shortly after Smart was hired, but in the end, the staff didn’t think he was going to be pulled out of Alabama. UGA’s coaching staff really didn’t deem him a priority visit over the final week of the recruiting calendar, when it came to in-home visits made by coach Kirby Smart.

The 6-foot-3, 235-pounder is rated as the nation’s No. 10 overall prospect for the Class of 2016.
