Georgia star RB Nick Chubb committed to UGA exactly four years ago today.
Tennessee RB Master W. Teague III has drawn more than a few comparisons to the senior stalwart.
Teague had the chance to repeat Chubb’s feat from back in 2014 but chose to go in another direction. The nation’s No. 25 RB prospect in 2018 shared his decision via social media on Sunday afternoon.
Teague wears No. 33. He chose to release his decision at 3:33 PM (CST) on Sunday afternoon as an example of his strong Christian faith. His commitment video itself also leaned heavily on passages of scripture.
It will be Ohio State for Teague.
There’s a strong chance for him to earn immediate playing time for the Buckeyes. Ohio State looks like it might lose at least one current member of its backfield to the NFL after this fall. There is a good chance for Teague to earn immediate playing time for the Buckeyes as a freshman.
There was late intrigue with this decision. The 3-star RB from Murfreesboro was considered to be a strong lean to UGA until a late visit to Ohio State sparked an offer. Teague earned that offer after another incredible workout.
The decision saw one of Georgia’s priority targets for 2018 look elsewhere. Teague, clearly an impressive blend of speed and strength that reminds many of Chubb, chose to play for the Buckeyes.
The 5-foot-11, 210-pounder clocked multiple 4.3 efforts off hand times in the 40-yard dash over the last week in workouts for both Alabama and Ohio State over the last week.
Did anything change between Teague and Georgia? Well, fans have every right to dissect a few images of that commitment video and ponder if that was a UGA T-shirt he was wearing while he kneeling as a transition from one scene to the next.
Teague, however, told Landof10.com on Sunday that nothing really changed.
“I don’t think anything changed,” Teague told Landof10’s Jeremy Birmingham. “There was never a ‘top school.’ I don’t know what people were getting at, we were just being led by God and let the decision be the best place for me to be at. All the schools have positives about them and I’m sure they all have negatives. We’re just putting our faith in God. The place we picked is the best place for me to be.”
The Bulldogs and their fans will now turn their full attention to the upcoming decision made by longtime fan favorite Zamir White. White ranks as the nation’s No. 1 RB and as a 5-star prospect for the Class of 2018.
Look for the Bulldogs to sign two RB prospects for this cycle. That will help offset the loss of Nick Chubb and Sony Michel to the NFL. Georgia should sign two backs to get their scholarship count at RB up to at least five backs.
Georgia should sign two backs to get their scholarship count at RB up to at least five backs. That’s necessary depth among the 85-man limit for a team that likes to run the ball as much as the Bulldogs.
Teague’s rating varied across the recruiting services but he has been rated as a Top 10 back nationally by 247Sports.
The ideal for Georgia had been to sign both Teague and White for 2018. That’s ironic given that the Buckeyes are also considered the other primary contender for White, too.
