As fall camp creeps closer, Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs received a speedy commitment Tuesday.
Ahkil Crumpton, an athletic return man who played last season at Los Angeles Valley College, committed to Georgia, as announced via his Twitter account.
Crumpton’s UGA offer is not official, however, a source close to the situation told DawgNation.
As a JUCO transfer, Crumpton would join the team before fall camp and be eligible to play immediately for the Bulldogs.
With both his stature and position, Crumpton is comparable to former Bulldogs record-setting returner Isaiah McKenzie, who was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the fifth round of the NFL draft in April.
Crumpton had major success on kick and punt returns last season. He returned 16 kicks for 690 yards and 3 touchdowns and also brought back 10 punts for 314 yards and 3 more touchdowns. He stands at 5 feet 9 inches and weighs 175 pounds.
His junior-college coach, Matt White, told Anthony Dasher of UGASports.com that Crumpton has plenty of skills.
“He was the No. 1 kickoff returner in the entire country — that’s NAIA all the way up to Division I in average yards per return,” White said. “The kid’s pretty special. We’ve clocked him in at a 4.39 in the 40-yard dash. He’s a hard-working dude.”
