Georgia produced a strong 2018 recruiting class, which has drawn praise from many college football observers.
Not only did the Bulldogs collect marquee talent in multiple areas, but coach Kirby Smart’s program added depth at so many key positions. Because of the haul, many expect Georgia to contend for SEC titles well into the future after a memorable 2017 season that included a berth in the National Championship Game.
Recently, Sports Illustrated’s Chris Johnson broke down which programs landed the best 2018 recruiting class at each position. Within the analysis, Georgia was listed as the best at three positions: running back, offensive line and linebacker.
One other SEC program made the list, with LSU mentioned as the best at wide receiver. Texas was the only other program to receive multiple mentions, with the Longhorns considered the best in the secondary and in the specialists category.
Johnson wrote that Sports Illustrated’s analysis “took into account both the quality and quantity of prospects for each category.” So the fact that Georgia’s recruiting class was viewed in such high regard is a statement about the success Smart’s program enjoyed during college football’s early signing period and on National Signing Day. So impressive, indeed.
Certainly, gaining a top recruiting class is just a first step toward a program’s journey to earn a national championship. But Bulldogs fans have so many reasons to be optimistic about the future in Athens.
Many bright days for the Bulldogs appear to be on the horizon.
