Four-star cornerback Jamyest Williams (Loganville, Ga.) is set to announce his decision around 2 p.m. on National Signing Day. The long-time South Carolina commitment has been wavering between the Gamecocks and Bulldogs in recent months.

His father recently said that Williams was 50-50 between Georgia and South Carolina after he visited Athens on an official visit two weeks ago. Williams closed out the recruiting process this past weekend with an official visit to Columbia, S.C.

Below are three items worth knowing about Williams on the eve of the biggest recruiting day of the year.

1. Committed to South Carolina in August

Williams committed to South Carolina in August, just hours before the first game of his senior season at Grayson High School. The Gamecocks hosted him for several unofficial visits during the fall. He was back this past weekend for his official.

2. Top-rated pledge

Since making his commitment, Williams has been the top-ranked prospect in the Gamecocks 2017 class, listed at No. 74 overall. The next closest prospect, 4-star wide receiver OrTre Smith, is No. 130 overall.

Among Georgia’s 2017 commitments, there are at least six rated higher than Williams on the overall class rankings list.

3. Georgia has ties

Williams grew up in Athens, and he’s still got family in the area. Several of his friends, including 4-star safety Deangelo Gibbs, have signed with Georgia or are committed to sign with them. Williams and Gibbs were both teammates at Grayson.
