Nation’s No. 7 cornerback Jamyest Williams names hometown Georgia among his Top 5
BEAVERTON, Ore. — Jamyest Williams grew up in Athens. He emerged as an elite national recruit at Archer High School and has transferred to Grayson High School for his senior season.
He traveled all the way to Oregon this week for Nike’s invitation-only “The Opening” college recruiting showcase. It was a return trip for Williams as he was one of the most impressive defensive backs last year as a junior. The 5-foot-9, 170-pounder chose the final day of The Opening to release his Top 5 schools heading into his senior season.

As expected, he had UGA among that final cut. Williams named Georgia, Clemson, Ohio State, South Carolina and Tennessee on Sunday.
Williams is rated as the nation’s No. 7 cornerback and No. 52 overall prospect. He’s rated as the No. 5 prospect in Georgia for the Class of 2017.
That’s good news for Georgia as Williams is one of the top targets at cornerback. Georgia would likely be quite giddy to receive commitments from a pool of in-state cornerbacks that include Williams, his Grayson High teammate DeAngelo Gibbs and Westlake cornerback A.J. Terrell.
