Newly offered 4-star says ‘Georgia recruits itself’
Jake Lawler has been waiting to get the news he received in math class on Thursday.

Lawler, a 4-star defensive end from North Carolina, received a text from South Mecklenburg High School head coach Rocky White that he received an offer from UGA.
Despite texting in class, Lawler said his teacher was happy for him. After looking down at his phone, his first reaction was pure elation.
“It’s UGA. Georgia recruits itself,” Lawler told DawgNation. “Knowing that a school with a rich talent tradition like Georgia wants me at their school is such an incredible feeling.”
The 6-foot-3, 225-pounder actually has a connection to UGA. His father, Andy, is a graduate of the university.
“My dad went to law school there and said it’s a great college town,” Lawler said. “Like I said, Georgia recruits itself.”
There was a report earlier on Thursday that said North Carolina and Duke were Lawler’s leaders. It turns out, that isn’t the case.
“They aren’t at the top of my list, but they are definitely schools that are recruiting me the hardest right now. Hopefully Georgia is next on that list, too,” he said.
Lawler and his family are thinking about attending the Kentucky vs. UGA game on Nov. 7.
He said UGA coaches told him that they are going to be on him hard until he makes his commitment.
