It was a busy day in the recruiting world for UGA on Wednesday.

The No. 1 player in Mississippi told us that he’s considering UGA, a 5-star said UGA ‘would be No. 1’ and an unknown player from Texas picked up an offer from the Bulldogs..

We have a lot to cover, so let’s get right to it.

Here are today’s must-reads

1. UGA sends out offer to the No. 1 player in Mississippi

It’s pretty late in the recruiting process to pick up an offer from a school if you are a 2016 prospect, but that doesn’t matter to Jeffery Simmons.

Simmons, a 4-star defensive end from Mississippi, told the AJC’s DawgNation.com that UGA will likely get an official visit. That’s big news for someone who was just offered by the Bulldogs on Wednesday.

The Army All-American also said that he has no favorites right now and is open to everybody.

If UGA were to get him on campus for an official visit, anything could happen. He’s someone to keep an eye on right now.

2. 5-star says UGA ‘would be No. 1’

Anthony McFarland, Jr. is the nation’s No. 2 running back in the class of 2017, and he told DawgNation that he could see himself committing to UGA.

The 5-star junior from Maryland’s DeMatha Catholic High School kept imagining himself in a red-and-black jersey running Between the Hedges on Saturdays while he was on UGA’s campus this past weekend for the South Carolina game.

The 5-foot-9, 181-pounder doesn’t have an official leader right now, but if he were to put out a top five today, UGA would be No. 1.

He explained why UGA would be on the top of his list: “When I went down there the first time, I just fell in love with how much of a family environment it actually was. I wasn’t even thinking about football.”

McFarland goes in-depth with his feelings about UGA, why he remembers his first conversation with Mark Richt so vividly and if it matters if the Bulldogs get two running back commits in this year’s class.

3. UGA offers unknown defensive end

Ondario Robinson received his first offer from a Power 5 team on Wednesday night.

Robinson, an unranked 2017 defensive end from Hutto, Texas, picked up an offer from UGA.

The 6-foot-5, 225-pounder’s only other offer is from Texas State.

Robinson is the third defensive end to pick up an offer from UGA this week. It definitely makes me wonder if UGA coaches do not feel confident with where they stand with some of the uncommitted targets on the defensive line in this year’s class. UGA has offers out to 5-stars Derrick Brown and Rashan Gary and 4-stars Michail Carter and Antwuan Jackson.

4. UGA and Kentucky recruiting 4-star the hardest

Kentucky has told Shawn Smith that if he were to commit to the school, he should expect to receive early playing time.

UGA’s recruiting pitch is a little different.

Smith, a 4-star athlete from Brunswick High School, told DawgNation that UGA wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon has expressed that schoolwork comes first before football at UGA. Smith likes that.

In this video, he breaks down when he’ll commit to a school; when he plans on visiting UGA and other schools that will get a look from him.

5. 5-star sets UGA official visit

If you are a regular reader of DawgNation, you would already know that the nation’s No. 2 player, offensive tackle Greg Little was taking an official visit to UGA.

Little, a 5-star from Allen, Texas, has set a date for his official visit on Oct. 3, according to 247Sports.com’s Kipp Adams. That’s the date of the Alabama game.

Alabama and Auburn are considered the favorites to land Little, but be sure that UGA offensive line coach Rob Sale and Mark Richt will roll out the red carpet as soon as he steps foot on campus next weekend.
