Freshman offers used to be very rare at UGA, but they are becoming more prevalent these days. That’s especially true with an elite prospect.
UGA became the second SEC school to offer Frederica Academy freshman JaShawn Sheffield on Saturday prior to the Georgia Southern game. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound receiver could be a receiver or a running back by the time he will sign in 2019.
UGA head coach Mark Richt offered Sheffield at mid-field prior to the game. That’s a major move for an in-state target out of St. Simons Island. Tennessee became the first school to offer Sheffield last week. Sheffield shared his initial reaction about the offer with SEC Country.
“I could see myself playing there,” Simmons said said. “I think it is a very good school.”
