UGA already has a quarterback commitment in the class of 2017 in McEachern High School’s Bailey Hockman, but the Bulldogs don’t look finished at the position just yet.

The Bulldogs have offered 2017 4-star quarterback Jake Bentley from Opelika (Ala.) High School, according to his Twitter account. Bentley’s high school is located exactly 12 miles away from Auburn’s Jordan-Hare Stadium. According to his 247Sports.com Crystal Ball, 75 percent of recruiting analysts that have made a prediction think Bentley will commit to Auburn. Bentley’s father, Bobby, is also on Gus Malzahn’s staff as an offensive analyst.

So why would UGA want to sign two quarterbacks in 2017? Depth.

Of course, UGA already has a commitment in this year’s recruiting class with Jacob Eason, the 5-star quarterback from Lake Stevens, Wash.

UGA quarterbacks Greyson Lambert and Faton Bauta are currently both redshirt juniors. When 2017 comes around, both players would have graduated by then. That leaves only Brice Ramsey (who would be a senior in 2017), Eason and Hockman. Freshman Nick Robinson and walk-on Sam Vaughn are also on the roster, but both don’t seem to have a good chance at seeing game time under center.

UGA’s main quarterback target for the following year (2018), is Trevor Lawrence, a 5-star from Cartersville High School.

Bentley is rated as the nation’s No. 5 pro-style quarterback and No. 4 prospect in the state of Alabama for 2017.
