UGA sends out offer to the No. 1 player in Mississippi
UGA has extended another offer out to a defensive lineman in the Class of 2016. This one is no late under-the-radar gem, but one of the nation’s top-rated defensive ends.
Jeffery Simmons, the No. 1 prospect from Mississippi, tweeted this morning that he had received a UGA offer. The 6-foot-4, 265-pounder has a reported 64 tackles and 10 sacks through his first four games.
The Noxubee County High School standout is rated as the nation’s No. 3 strong-side defensive end and the No. 38 overall prospect in this year’s class. He’s an impressive athlete for his size at any level. His Hudl player page credits him with a 4.7 second time in the 40-yard dash.
It is another sign this week that UGA is not done going after 2016 targets. UGA didn’t get a commitment from Alabama 5-star defensive end Marlon Davidson earlier this month and the program also offered a 3-star prospect from Texas earlier this week.
UGA has several priority targets on the defensive line this year in Derrick Brown, Michail Carter, Brian Burns, Rashan Gary and Antwuan Jackson, among others.
The 247sports Crystal Ball currently projects Simmons to Mississippi State. Alabama and Ole Miss follow closely behind.
