Jamyest Williams is on Georgia’s mind.

The 4-star cornerback is a key late potential addition for the Class of 2017 in Athens.

Williams committed to South Carolina on Aug. 27. He just took a big visit to Georgia over the weekend.

What’s going on there? Well, there’s the ultimate source on that.

That’s his father, James “JJ” Williams. Jamyest has told me many times he wouldn’t be the player he is today without the influence and persistence of his father.

Their relationship stands out. It is uncommon even in the context of the many tight father-son bonds I’ve seen over the years. It was so unique it became the first installment of a special annual DawgNation feature.

We’re going to find a recruit every Father’s Day that owes a lot of their success to an uncommon contribution from their father. That’s not easy given a climate where there are a great many fathers that deserve a 5-star rating for the influence and impact they have on their sons.

Williams grew up in the Athens area. So this decision will not come easy for him.

Those paragraphs were necessary to add the proper context about where Williams stands now in regard to his college decision.

What’s the latest? His father shared the following message last night on Facebook.

“After this weekend’s visit to UGA, I can officially say things have just got real,” Williams wrote on his page. “In my opinion, I feel he’s about 50-50 between UGA and South Carolina. This upcoming official visit to South Carolina this weekend is going to be critical in finalizing where Jamyest is going to continue his academic and athletic career.”

He also asked for everyone to consider how hard that decision can be.

“People on the outside have no clue how stressful and time-consuming things can be in the decision process, but all I can do is ask for your support and prayers as we work through these final days in this recruiting cycle,” he wrote.

Williams plans to make his final decision known at a 9 a.m. ET ceremony on National Signing Day at Grayson High School.
