LITHONIA — Broderick Jones was the first 5-star commitment for the Bulldogs for the Class of 2020.
He doesn’t take a lot of trips, but he was in Athens for the South Carolina game this past weekend. Jones, the nation’s No. 2 OT for 2020 on the 247 Sports Composite, didn’t ding the Bulldogs for that performance.
“My response is every game is not going to go in your favor,” Jones said. “There are always some hiccups you are going to run into and some brick walls. Games are not going to be going your way. Your quarterback might be messing up. Your line might be messing up. Everybody has just got to be in sync. I think they can get that done. One game does not affect their season, though.”
The 6-foot-6 senior from Lithonia High School weighed in at 285 pounds at Georgia last weekend. That was down about 15 pounds from his summer weight. He also planned to be back at Georgia for this weekend’s game with Kentucky, but his school’s homecoming game on Saturday doesn’t allow for that.
How solid is his commitment to UGA?
“My commitment is solid to Georgia,” he said. “I feel pretty good about Georgia. Everything that I need is there. Coaching. The coaching staff. The environment. The players. It is just another home.”
Jones had once planned to enroll early, but no longer plans to do so. It might be because he has to look after “Piper” for a few more months.
