Jamaree Salyer, the 5-star offensive guard from Pace Academy in Atlanta, experienced his last first day of fall high school football practice on Tuesday.

He got in a big sweat. Just like the rest of his teammates. He even pulled a teammate with a bungee cord during a final 8-minute, post-practice conditioning period. It looked like he could pull about six of them.

Everyone was huffing and puffing.

“This really isn’t any fun right now,” Pace Academy coach Chris Slade said. “But it is going to be worth it in November.”

That reference to the state high school football playoffs and a state championship is also foremost on Salyer’s mind right now.

The nation’s top-rated offensive line prospect for the this year’s cycle is thinking about a Mercedes-Benz. But not buying one in a few years with his first pro paycheck.

He’s thinking about his Knights returning to the state championship game. The state finals will be held inside the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium this December. That’s the Benz he has on his mind.

Salyer, who was named the offensive line MVP at Nike’s The Opening this month, sat down with SEC Country and DawgNation’s Jeff Sentell to weigh in on a lot of topics regarding his senior season.

His focus is on his team. As it should be. But he also touched on how he will carry his college commitment decision into his senior season.

Georgia is a contender here. Yet it will be a tussle to land Salyer. Clemson, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Stanford are all definitely in contention. Those close to him can see Salyer going to any of those five schools.
