Georgia is preparing for its most important game in years, but a key member of the coaching staff could be headed elsewhere soon.
Bulldogs defensive coordinator Mel Tucker is a strong candidate for the opening at Tennessee, according to a report from FootballScoop.com.
Tucker is on a list with four other esteemed candidates who have had conversations with Tennessee’s new athletic director Phillip Fulmer: Auburn DC Kevin Steele, Clemson DC Brent Venables, SMU coach Chad Morris and former LSU coach Les Miles.
If hired, it’s unclear whether Tucker would stay on with the Bulldogs for their semifinal matchup vs. Oklahoma or a potential National Championship Game.
Tucker’s presence will be crucial as the Bulldogs prepare to face presumed Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield.
Fulmer hopes to have a hire made by end of day on Tuesday, according to the report.
