ATHENS — Georgia sophomore offensive lineman Cade Mays has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to AL.com.
Mays, a former 5-star recruit and Freshman All-American, is from Knoxville, Tenn., and was once committed to the Vols’ program.
Mays father played at Tennessee, and he has a younger brother (Cooper) who is already enrolled and a part of Jeremy Pruitt’s Vols’ program.
Mays started 11 games for the No. 5-ranked Bulldogs this season, proving himself among the most valuable linemen in the nation with his versatility.
Indeed, Mays was shuffled into every offensive line position for Georgia this season, helping to seal gaps that arose on account of injuries.
Mays started at left tackle for the Bulldogs in their 26-14 win over Baylor in the Sugar Bowl.
Georgia has a new offensive line coach in former Ole Miss head coach Matt Luke.
Mays said in his Sugar Bowl interview that he liked Luke’s coaching style and seemed excited about the future.
Mays would be the fifth Georgia player in the transfer portal, joining linebacker Robert Beal, defensive back Otis Reese and walk-ons Prather Hudson and Willie Erdman.
The Georgia offensive line has already suffered high attrition with three underclassmen declaring themselves eligible for the 2020 NFL Draft.
Offensive tackles Andrew Thomas and Isaiah Wilson are leaving, as is offensive guard Solomon Kindley.
Earlier on Wednesday, quarterback Jake Fromm declared himself eligible for the 2020 NFL Draft.
