That didn’t last long.

Per FootballScoop.com, Scott Fountain, who was hired by Mississippi State as its special teams coordinator on Jan. 12 after a year at Georgia as an off-field analyst, has decided to return to Athens and the SEC East Bulldogs.

Fountain joined Joe Moorhead’s new coaching staff soon after Georgia’s loss to Alabama in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game and was expected to be a big help to Mississippi State in both special teams and recruiting. There is no information on why the return to Georgia is expected to happen.

Before landing at Georgia, Fountain worked at Auburn from 2009-16 in various roles, including director of player personnel, special teams coordinator and tight ends coach.
