ATHENS — As it turns out, one play won’t cost Solomon Kindley a full season.

Kindley has been granted a redshirt season for 2016 by the NCAA, and will thus the offensive lineman have four seasons of eligibility remaining, a team spokesman confirmed.

It’s not clear whether it was a medical redshirt, or just relief from the usual NCAA rule that says a redshirt is burned once a player sees the field.

“We’re basically looking at all those with him to hopefully get it back,” head coach Kirby Smart said in November.

Kindley entered the Missouri game for just one play. Then he sat the rest of the season, with Smart describing him as having some injuries. NCAA rules do allow for a medical redshirt if a player suffers a season-ending injury during the team’s first four games.

A native of Jacksonville, Kindley spent most of season with the second team at guard, and was on the verge of playing early in the season. He will enter spring in the competition for a starting spot, and now with the status of a redshirt freshman.
