Sony Michel, along with Nick Chubb, will look to carry the Bulldogs to a big Week 2 win against Notre Dame (Saturday, 7:30 p.m., NBC).
The Bulldogs are coming off a Week 1 win at home over Appalachian State.
Below is everything you need to know about Michel.
1. Sony Michel has talents beyond the football field
While Michel has dazzled fans with football abilities, he’s shown his talents behind the microphone. Michel has a produced a number of songs, including one with Rich Homie Quan. Michel’s songs often are heard at Georgia football games.
2. Sony Michel is every bit as good as Nick Chubb
While Michel might not get the same level of attention of hype as his counterpart, Michel has shown he’s just as dangerous. When Nick Chubb went down with an injury in 2015, Michel took over and rushed for 1,161 yards and 8 touchdowns. Last season, while splitting time with Chubb, Michel still racked up 840 rushing yards.
3. Sony Michel is a pass-catching weapon
While Chubb is more of a bruiser, Michel has been a consistent force in the passing game. In his last two seasons, Michel has hauled in 48 receptions for 419 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns. Notre Dame will have to keep an eye on him coming out of the backfield.
4. With Jacob Eason out, Sony Michel and Nick Chubb will have to pick up the load
Georgia is going to need a big game out of both Chubb and Michel, given what happened in Week 1. The Bulldogs saw starting quarterback Jacob Eason exit the game with a knee sprain, and he will be out for the Notre Dame game. Jake Fromm will make his first career start for the Bulldogs.
Michel and Chubb combined to run for 183 yards against Appalachian State last week.
5. Sony Michel chose to return to Georgia for his senior year over the NFL
Last year, Michel, along with Chubb, had the choice of whether to head to the NFL. Given the short shelf life of NFL running backs, some thought he would leave. But Michel made the choice to come back to Georgia for his senior year, and this thrilled Georgia fans everywhere.
