Chip & Seth: Change is afoot at Georgia’s QB position
ATHENS — Well, it has been an interesting week around the ol’ football complex at Georgia. As the week progressed, chatter about a possible shakeup involving the Bulldogs’ quarterback position got louder and louder. And then, when coach Mark Richt was asked directly about it after Wednesday’s practice, he did very little to quell the speculation. All he would allow is they’ve been “repping more than one guy with the ones.”
A lot of people are translating that to mean that they are going to make a change at the starting position and that it’s going to be Faton Bauta rather than Greyson Lambert when the Bulldogs line up Saturday against No. 11 Florida in Jacksonville. Others — such as me — believe there has been a change in the hierarchy behind Lambert and that Georgia is simply getting Bauta ready to be the No. 2 guy.
The only ones who know for sure — Richt and offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer — aren’t saying. And why would they? Why not let the Gators stew over the possibilities for a few days before they kick off at EverBank Field? Anything to muddy the water is good at this point in their minds.
In any case, Seth and I recorded our weekly show Wednesday afternoon as we always do, which was before we heard from Richt after after practice. It’s all certainly making for some interesting conversations and added even more intrigue to a game already packed with it.
