Thomas Davis offered some insight into how some former Georgia football players are feeling about new Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart.

Davis expressed those sentiments to the AJC’s D. Orlando Ledbetter on Wednesday.

“We are excited about having coach Smart. We were disappointed to see coach (Mark) Richt leave because you guys know how much we love coach Richt and what he was able to do for us as players,” Davis said in a Q&A. “But, if we have to bring in a different guy, you know that you are excited to see a guy who’s vested in the program like coach Smart. We feel like he’s going to do a good job at Georgia.”

Davis played at Georgia from 2002-04, racking up All-American and All-SEC honors in 2004. On Tuesday, Davis won the Good Guy award from the Pro Football Writers Association, which is given to the player who best deals with media.
