DN90: One of college football’s top players congratulated UGA’s latest commit

Georgia got some good news Tuesday for its 2021 recruiting class when three-star wide receiver Jackson Meeks — from Phenix City, Ala. — announced his commitment to the Bulldogs.

The pledge is certain to be well-received by UGA fans after Meeks’ fast start to his senior season at Central High School and because Meeks’ hometown has recently become a hotbed for wide receivers — including Clemson’s Justyn Ross, who tweeted some well wishes to Meeks shortly after Meeks went public with his decision.

Ross — who had 1,000 yards receiving in his freshman season at Clemson in 2018 and played a pivotal in the Tigers’ national championship that season — is arguably one of the top players in the sport despite the fact he’s expected to miss the upcoming season due to an injury.

UGA fans would obviously be thrilled if Meeks could match that production with the Bulldogs. But Ross wasn’t the only Phenix City product who has had nice things to say about Meeks.

EJ Williams, another wide receiver from Phenix City, who ironically also happens to play for Clemson, congratulated Meeks as well.

Meeks finds himself in good company when it comes to players from his hometown who have gone on to starring roles at the receiver position in college football, and soon, he could be playing an important role for the Bulldogs at that position as well.
