JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Shaquery Wilson, one of Georgia’s freshman receivers, will not play in the TaxSlayer Bowl because of what is being called an academic issue.
Wilson did not make the trip with the team to Jacksonville, interim head coach Bryan McClendon confirmed before Monday’s practice at North Florida University.
“His is more of an academic issue,” McClendon said.
Earlier this month Wilson told several media outlets that he was transferring to be closer to his home in Miami, but he ended up backing off that and was with the team at bowl practices in Athens.
Wilson appeared in two games this season, not making any catches.
