Georgia basketball stayed unbeaten with a 100-66 win over Delaware State on Friday night, hitting triple digits for the first time this season.

Junior Rayshaun Hammonds recorded his first double-double of the season and the fourth of his career.

The 6-foot-9 235-pounder scored 26 points with a career-high 14 rebounds against an overwhelmed Hornets team at Stegeman Coliseum.

“Today was one of those days for Ray, I think he had a little bit of a breakthrough,” Crean said on his postgame radio show. “We demand a lot from Ray because we think he’s capable of a lot.”

Freshman Mike Peake, a 6-8, 220-pounder from Chicago, made his debut with 8 points and 4 rebounds in 12 minutes.

“Mike did a good job, he’s learning, he’s maturing, and this was really good for him tonight,” Crean said. “He was ready when his name was called. I think he can be a factor for us.”

Freshman Anthony Edwards, Georgia’s star attraction and a projected NBA lottery pick scored only 6 points on 3-of-7 shooting against Delaware Sate (0-3) after opening the season with 24 and 29 points in his first two outings.

Edwards did, however, record a season-high 7 assists with just one turnover, and for the second straight game, he had 3 steals.

It was a final warm-up for the Bulldogs (3-0), who next play rival Georgia Tech at 7 p.m. next Wednesday in Athens.

Crean has 10 new players on this season’s team, so Friday night’s 30 assists and 10 turnovers were numbers he was pleased with after stressing ball movement in the days leading up to the game.

Georgia, however, will have work to do from the free-throw line. The Bulldogs were just 13-of-24 shooting from the free-throw line.

UGA held a 50-30 lead at halftime as Hammonds got off to a fast start, scoring 17 points with 7 rebounds through the firs 20 minutes.

A trip to the Maui Invitational follows the showdown with Georgia Tech.

Georgia will open the Hawaii three-day tournament against savvy Dayton at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 25.

Basketball heavyweights Michigan State, Kansas and UCLA are also in the tournament.
