ATHENS — Athens’ area realtors be advised: Mary Beth Smart is in the market and she’s ready to spend some money.

That’s according to her husband, new Georgia coach Kirby Smart. He said that his wife, who played basketball at UGA as Mary Beth Lycett, has already been canvassing the area for where to settle with Kirby and their three young children.

“She’s frantically shopping for somewhere to live,” Smart said Monday. “Let me assure you, she’s ready to spend some money.”

Former Georgia coach Mark Richt lived in Oconee County, just outside of Watkinsville. The Smarts have not decided just yet where they’re going to live.

The Smarts are already well-familiar with the area, having attended school at UGA and lived in the area for a year in 2005.

Meanwhile, Mary Beth got a chance to look around this past weekend. However, house-hunting wasn’t her primary focus.

“Fortunately she came over for the weekend,” Kirby Smart said. “It was really critical to have her here with the other families. She got to stay over and help me recruit and spend some time for them this weekend.”

Smart’s week-long stay has been less glamorous. He has been spending all his nights in a hotel, in Athens and out on the road.

Perhaps he’ll have a home by the time he comes back after the New Year. He’ll be back in Tuscaloosa preparing Alabama for its Dec. 31 matchup against Michigan State in the College Football Playoff semifinals until then.
