ATHENS — Mark Richt’s surreptitious cross-country trip to see Jacob Eason surprised the fans, media, Eason himself, and apparently Georgia’s current starting quarterback.

Greyson Lambert, asked Wednesday what he thought when he heard it, said he didn’t hear about it right away.

“I kinda deleted all my social media off my phone I guess at the beginning of the year, just to block everything out,” Lambert said. “But it is what it is.”

That doesn’t meant there’s any antipathy on Lambert’s part. He actually hosted Eason on one of his visits to Athens.

“He’s a great guy,” Lambert said. “I met him and his father. He’s a great dude. I hung out with him the whole time, and am looking forward to having him here.”

Besides both being quarterbacks the two have something else in common: Height. Eason is listed at 6-foot-6 and Lambert is only an inch under that. So Lambert was asked if the two had to duck everywhere they went. He laughed.

“Around here everything’s made a bit bigger,” he said.
