Mark Richt told UGA’s football players in a Thursday team meeting that he will not coach in the bowl game, a source told Seth Emerson of the AJC and DawgNation.

Bryan McClendon, who is UGA’s recruiting coordinator and assistant coach for running backs, will take over as UGA’s interim coach.

“I’ve asked Bryan to assume all administrative duties of the head coach,” said UGA athletics director Greg McGarity said in a press release.

“This will be the least disruptive option for our players and staff as they begin preparations for our bowl game.”

Richt is expected to be named as Miami’s new coach at 10 a.m. Friday, less than a week after he was fired by the Bulldogs after 15 years as coach. Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart is expected to be named as UGA’s new coach, according to Chip Towers of the AJC and DawgNation.

Back to UGA: Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt, as well as all other assistant coaches, will also coach for the Bulldogs in the bowl game.
