ATHENS — It’s still not official, but things continue to move in the direction of Mecole Hardman being a wide receiver this season at Georgia, rather than cornerback.

Hardman has been listed as a cornerback since he arrived at Georgia last year, and still is on the official roster. But he has been working mainly on offense for most of spring practice. And he will play exclusively on offense and special teams on G-Day on Saturday.

But Smart stopped short of saying the move is permanent, when asked Thursday if Hardman was now an offensive player.

“Right now Mecole is playing offense more than he’s playing defense,” Smart said, with a slight grin.

Last year Hardman played cornerback and no offense, but it was a tough adjustment. He played quarterback in high school, along with some safety. So the call on where to play Hardman wasn’t an easy decision.
