The homecoming game for UGA’s Cade Mays started off about as expected on Saturday night.
The Tennessee fans welcomed Mays with a round of boos when the UGA offensive lineman ran to the middle of the field during warmups.
Why the boos? Mays is a former 5-star recruit out of Knoxville, Tenn., and was once committed to Tennessee.
He backed off his pledge to the Volunteers after rumors began circulating about the job security of then-coach Butch Jones. Mays ended up signing with UGA.
Ironically, Mays’ younger brother, Cooper Mays, is a high school senior who is committed to play football at Tennessee. He’s also an offensive lineman. Their father, Kevin Mays, was an All-SEC offensive lineman for the Volunteers.
After hearing the boos, Mays reportedly nodded his head up and down several times.
