ATHENS — Georgia receiver Terry Godwin was selected in the 2019 NFL Draft in the seventh round with the 237th overall pick by the Carolina Panthers on Saturday.

Godwin was the 26th receiver selected in the NFL Draft, and the seventh Bulldogs’ player:

• CB Deandre Baker (N.Y. Giants, 30th, 1st round)

• WR Mecole Hardman (Kansas City, 56th, 2nd round)

• WR Riley Ridley (Chicago, 126th, 4th round)

• OLB D’Andre Walker (Tennessee, 168th, 5th round)

• OC Lamont Gaillard (Arizona, 179th, 6th round)

• TE Isaac Nauta (Detroit, 224th, 7th round)

Godwin had 22 catches for 373 yards and 3 touchdowns in 2018 after missing time at the start of the season on account of an injured calf muscle.

The 5-foot-11, 184-pound Godwin had arguably the best hands in the UGA receiving corps, and his 36.5-inch vertical jump was noted at the NFL combine.

Godwin ranked among the more athletic receivers on the NFL draft board.

Godwin was selected in the 33rd round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft by the Atlanta Braves coming out of Callaway High School in Hogansville, Ga.

But Godwin, a 5-star signee for previous UGA coach Mark Richt, stuck with football.

Godwin finished his UGA career 10th on the school’s all-time receptions list (134). He also had the unique accomplishment of having scored touchdowns via the pass, run and kick return, in addition to his 12 touchdown catches.

Coach Kirby Smart was so impressed with Godwin that he brought him to SEC Media Days leading into the 2018 season.

“He is just a bright-eyed guy that loves to practice every day,” Smart said. “You can put Terry in any position, and it works for him. He understands the game, and his leadership in that room with the wideouts has been tremendous for us.”

Godwin most recently starred in the East-West Shrine Game, earning MVP honors with four catches for 80 yards and 2 TDs.
