ATHENS — Ah, it begins: The season of preseason All-SEC lists.

One released today by Al.com (formerly the Birmingham News) bears passing along because it’s compiled by polling the conference’s sports information directors. This marks the 70th year the news organization has done its preseason list.

Al.com released the results for the first- and second-team offense on Wednesday, and three Georgia players were on it. And all were on the first team:

Nick Chubb joined LSU’s Leonard Fournette as the first team tailbacks. That’s a bit optimistic considering Chubb has yet to be cleared to play in Georgia’s opener, and even if he does, he’s not likely to start. Sony Michel almost certainly will get the bulk of the workload. But it’s a long season, and who knows how things turn out. The reports of Chubb’s quick recovery certainly merit putting him on the list.

Brandon Kublanow was named the first-team center. Kublanow will be a senior and a third-year starter this fall, and is one of the league’s few returning starters at center.

Greg Pyke is also on the first team as a guard, where he’s played the past two seasons at Georgia. The question is where he’ll be this fall, as he worked at right tackle during spring practice. But he could shift back to guard if Georgia’s staff likes what it sees from Rhode Island grad transfer Tyler Catalina.

Al.com will release the first- and second-team defense later.
