ATHENS — Brandon Kublanow isn’t a hunter. The only time he went he was dragged into a deer stand by teammate Glenn Welch, and Kublanow was so bored he threatened to kill something other than a deer.

“It was freezing. I was sore. I was staring at a field, sitting in this thing his like great-great-grandpa built, we’re rocking back and forth,” Kublanow said. “I grabbed his gun and said, ‘Glenn, if we don’t see anything I’m shooting you. Thirty minutes went by and I said, I’m done, and we left.”

Kublanow didn’t shoot Welch and both will be on Georgia’s bowl trip to Memphis for the Liberty Bowl, which as part of its gifts to each player will offer a $50 gift card to the largest Bass Pro Shops in the world.

“I may buy a T-shirt,” Kublanow said.

But there are plenty of other gifts to be had: The big one is a $400 VISA gift card, which UGA is giving to each player. (Yes, it’s allowable under NCAA rules.)

The Liberty Bowl is giving each player from Georgia and TCU the Bass Pro Shops gift card, plus a set of binoculars, a men’s watch with the bowl logo, and a Nike sports pack.

The Bulldogs will be staying at the Peabody Hotel, which is famous for having ducks that wander the lobby, and even the elevators. Kublanow, who didn’t know about that, was urged to spread the word to his hunting teammates who hunt.

“They’ll be like sitting upstairs,” Kublanow said, pretending to hold a gun, “You see them ducks down there?”
