Welcome to your one-stop shop for all the relevant UGA football news and takes every Monday through Friday. The offseason rolls on and so do we.
Mark Fox needs to offer Westlake High Class of 2019 shooting guard Chase Hutner, like, right now. I have not seen him do much, but I have seen him do this, and it is enough for me.
Oh man, I think my face is permanently scrunched.
Hunter’s team reacted perfectly to the jam. There is no other response to such a monster yam than for everyone, including fans, to attempt to rush the floor and run in circles, mouths agape in disbelief. Luckily for the team, the coaches had enough sense to corral everyone before they could start doing celebratory laps around the gym floor.
On a serious note, Hunter does seem like a viable player to end up in Athens. On top of being an in-state prospect, Hunter is apparently the younger brother of a Class of 2017 UGA football commit, linebacker Jaden Hunter, so there’s a family connection to Georgia, or at least there will be soon. According to ESPN, the sophomore holds offers from Auburn and Mississippi State, a pair of programs comparable to UGA, so he obviously can do more than just jump out of the building. And even if he can’t, I’d still love to see him in red and black just for a few good yokes inside Stegeman Coliseum.
I’d also like to dedicate the rest of this column to No. 5 in white. That young man may never recover from that posterization. Prayers sent.
SB Nation composite top 25
Jason Kirk of SB Nation always does fantastic work with the Read Option college football newsletter and you should check it out every morning. On Wednesday, Kirk compiled a composite preseason top 25 for 2017 based on rankings from 12 different national media organizations, giving teams 25 points for a first-place spot, 24 for a second and so on, then ranking teams by point totals.
Based on those rankings, Georgia is slated at No. 14 in the country with 138 points. (For reference, No. 1 Alabama had 298 points and No. 25 Oregon had 20 points.) Georgia’s highest ranking among the outlets the composite was compiled from was 13th, chosen by three publications, and the lowest was 17th, but USA Today.
Three of Georgia’s opponents in 2017 are ranked. Auburn is 13th, Florida is 17th and Tennessee 22nd.
Here's pretty much the preseason top 25 we'll see seven months from now https://t.co/LFc0ZKCkKy

Everyone’s excited about RL3
Richard LeCounte III is already a fan favorite because of his efforts to recruit his fellow 2017 prospects to UGA and his obvious passion of playing for the Bulldogs. RL3 already is on campus as an early enrollee, and Kirby Smart finally gave his thoughts on the 5-star safety on 680 The Fan’s program, Official Visit.
“He’s a bowling ball of energy, I tell you that,” Smart said. “He is a kid that loves the game. He loves people. He loves life. He’s got a great family. He’s in our family now and he’s done a great job helping us with this class. I’m looking forward to it.”
It seems that RL3’s passion isn’t something projected on him by fans. Nothing in there indicates anything about his playing time, but between UGA’s lack of depth in the secondary and Smart’s positivity over his future, it seems a pretty safe bet that RL3 will see some minutes this fall, probably in the nickel spot vacated by Maurice Smith.
Mark your calendars
