There’s nothing like a little in-state smack talk to liven up the hours before National Signing Day.

Television personality Ellen DeGeneres recently tweeted a seemingly innocent and most certainly unrelated message to her more than 65 million Twitter followers: “If you’re around @GeorgiaTech/#Atlanta area, keep your Wednesday free.”

Ellen fans likely saw this message as an exciting opportunity for something fun, but UGA staffer Ben Brandenburg saw another opportunity in the wording.

Given that National Signing Day also lands on Wednesday, and the Yellow Jackets football faithful likely will be anticipating something other than an Ellen surprise, Brandenburg decided it was a great opportunity to take a jab at the in-state rival by implying there won’t be much going on for Georgia Tech during one of the most important days on the college football calendar.

Ouch!

To be fair, both UGA and Georgia Tech both are sure to be quite busy on Wednesday trying to secure their respective signing classes. But this rivalry wouldn’t be considered clean, old-fashioned hate without a little good-natured ribbing from time to time, would it?
