The winner of this Saturday’s SEC championship game matchup between Georgia and Auburn will make it to the College Football Playoff. And that team may also be the lone representative of the conference.
According to FS1’s Colin Cowherd, that team is going to be Georgia.
On Wednesday’s “The Herd,” Cowherd picked the Bulldogs to beat the Tigers, and then advance to the College Football Playoff as the No. 4 seed. He picked Alabama to be the first team out of the playoff at No. 5.
“I think Georgia beats a beat-up Auburn team, they’re beat up emotionally and physically,” Cowherd said. “Georgia is then elevated because they have a huge quality win over No. 2 Auburn.”
Cowherd picked Clemson, Oklahoma and Wisconsin as the top three teams in his College Football Playoff prediction.
As for Georgia, Cowherd said although the Bulldogs and Crimson Tide will each have just one loss, Alabama doesn’t have any wins on the same level as his predicted victory by Georgia over Auburn.
“I just think it’s impossible to ask Auburn to beat Georgia by 30, beat Alabama and then have to face Georgia again and beat them again on a neutral field,” Cowherd said. “I think Georgia’s healthier, and I think they want to avenge the loss. And I think Georgia’s going to end up here playing. Alabama’s not going to have the quality win. They both have a loss, but Alabama’s not going to have near the quality wins of Georgia.”
