ATHENS — The last weekend before the start of the college football season, a time when all opinions and predictions hold weight, and everyone’s favorite team is undefeated.

Indeed, part of the magic of stock car racing’s season-opening race, the Daytona 500, was that every driver, team and sponsor rolled into the garage with championship aspirations.

Georgia brings out alternate black and white and red jerseys

And just as those cars would often have new and attractive pain schemes, the Georgia Bulldogs have managed to do the same for their opening game next Saturday at Arkansas.

 

An unscientific poll revealed that fans preferred to red-and-white throwback jerseys the Bulldogs will wear against the Razorbacks to the black alternates that will be worn for home games later this season.

UGA has several great storylines brewing, including the possibility of redshirt freshman D’Wan Mathis starting the game less than 16 months after undergoing life-threatening brain surgery!

The Bulldogs also have what might be the best defense in the country on tap, in addition to one of the most talented receivers in school history.

 

Georgia receiver George Pickens went in front of the media this week, and it was telling how much he talked about the team.

The team, the team, the team. Six times Pickens mentioned the team.
