ATHENS — Georgia coach Kirby Smart, who drew some attention for his combative demeanor in Monday’s news conference, had a little fun with the media regarding the Bulldogs’ quarterback competition after practice Tuesday.

In his post-practice briefing, Smart opened his remarks informing one and all that it was Claude Felton’s birthday. He added that Felton, UGA’s longtime sports communication director, told him that the best birthday gift Smart could give him was to “get this whole quarterback thing out of the way.”

“So with that, I wanted to let y’all know,” Smart said, pausing for effect, “it’s going to be a couple more days.”
