Way-too-early Georgia depth chart for 2018 season

Depth chart-Georgia-Andrew Thomas-D'Andre Swift
Andrew Thomas (77) and D'Andre Swift (7) will be cornerstones of an offense that on paper could be pretty good in 2018.

ATHENS — The Georgia football team did indeed get hit by the NFL draft. But it could’ve been worse. And while it also lost one of the best senior classes in program history, the Bulldogs are also in the process of bringing in what is currently the nation’s top recruiting class.

So with the NFL draft deadline having passed, and most of the recruiting class signed, here’s a snapshot of what Georgia’s depth chart looks like. And by snapshot, we mean extremely early, with still more players to be added, the possibility of attrition to come, and plenty of competition set to take place in spring practice and the preseason.

(At this time last year, if we had told you J.R. Reed would be a starting safety, Kendall Baker would start almost every game at left guard, and the starting quarterback for all but one game would be Jake Fromm, then … well, you get the point.)

So with all that said, here’s a very, very early look at the two-deep, sure to leave off players who will end up making an impact, sure to be wrong in some spots, but a best guess based on all current information:

QB: Jake Fromm, Soph. QB: Justin Fields, Fr.

RB: D’Andre Swift, Soph. RB: Brian Herrien, Jr./Elijah Holyfield, Jr. RB: James Cook, Fr./Zamir White, Fr. (injured)

Note: Yes, that’s 12 starting positions on defense. Georgia typically lists it that way too because of its substituting. But don’t worry. If Georgia tries to use 12 players at a time, the officials probably will notice.

K: Rodrigo Blankenship, R-Jr.

KR: Mecole Hardman, Jr.
