At the start of the year, UGA’s basketball game at Memphis looked like one of the biggest games of the college basketball season.

And it didn’t have much to do the teams.

The hype for the game was a showdown between two potential NBA lottery picks — with UGA freshman sensation Anthony Edwards squaring off against the freshman star for Memphis, 7-foot-1 James Wiseman.

Both Edwards and Wiseman are projected by some to go as early as No. 1 and No. 2 in the upcoming NBA draft, although neither blue-chip prospect has revealed his future plans. Wiseman, of course, seems to be the near-consensus choice as the No. 1 overall selection.

However, the two future millionaires will have to wait and play against each other another day.

Late Wednesday, the NCAA announced that Wiseman will be suspended for 12 games for impermissible benefits – with his return date set for Jan. 12, thereby just missing the Bulldogs.

UGA plays at Memphis on Saturday, Jan. 4.
