Georgia basketball coach Mark Fox saw his football counterpart, Kirby Smart, have a monumental haul during the early signing period Wednesday and Thursday and may have said to himself, “I want a part of that.”

For Fox, that came Thursday night when Georgia received the commitment of 5-star point guard Ashton Hagans from newton High School in Covington, Ga.

Hagans is ranked the No. 6 overall player in the 2019 Rivals100 basketball rankings and becomes the first commit for the Bulldogs in the 2019 class.

“I went to the football game and talked to the coaches. They just told me how they love my game and would love for me to stay home for college and be a Bulldog,” Hagans said per Rivals.com. “When I was little, my cousin Trey Thompkins played there so I have always known Coach [Jonas] Hayes and Coach [Mark] Fox.”

At 6-foot-4 and 190 pounds, Hagans has excellent size for the point guard position and plays with a tenacity that Fox will love leading his team.
