Georgia guard Tyree Crump gave a succinct answer when someone asked, after his team’s second straight big win, what happened after it seemed his team’s season was lost.

“Hey. We just had to figure it out,” Crump said. “We’ve got to play for each other. Not anybody else. Just each other.”

That may be true, but the Bulldogs also have to play for the NCAA selection committee.

At this point, they’re still probably on the wrong side of the bubble. But wins at Florida and over Tennessee have resurrected their hopes, with a final two weeks of the regular season that has a manageable schedule. That begins with a trip to South Carolina, which upset UGA at home the first time around.

Georgia’s own RPI rating is lower than it needs to be: 64 as of Tuesday afternoon, per ESPN.com. But UGA still has a strong enough resume’ under the NCAA’s new “quadrant” system: Five of its wins are considered “Quadrant 1” wins (Tennessee, at Florida, at Marquette, at LSU, vs. St. Mary’s), and four are considered Quadrant 2 wins (home against Alabama, Florida, Temple, at Cal-State Fullerton).

South Carolina entered the day at 78 in the RPI. A road win at the Gamecocks, if they finished in the top 75, would be considered a Quadrant 1 win. Worse case it would still be a Quadrant 2 win, considering the value of road wins.

More importantly, Georgia simply doesn’t have much margin for error. It put itself in that position by losing eight of 10. But it still has a chance to pull itself out.

“It’s almost like saying you have no option,” Georgia junior forward Derek Ogbeide said. “I think everybody got to the mentality, to the mind that we don’t have an option but to keep on going.”
