Georgia will host Texas in next year’s SEC/Big 12 Challenge, ESPN announced Tuesday.

The Longhorns will travel to Stegeman Coliseum Jan. 28 for the first time since the 1997-98 season. The Bulldogs hold a 6-5 all-time record against Texas, with the most recent meeting resulting in a 77-71 loss in the 2002-03 season opener. Georgia is 2-0 against Texas in Athens.

The Bulldogs lost their annual SEC/Big 12 Challenge matchup last season, falling to Baylor, 83-73.

Texas was victorious in its inter-conference matchup last season, with a win over Vanderbilt. The Longhorns will enter next season coming off a 20-13 record and an NCAA Tournament appearance, which ended in an opening round loss to Northern Iowa.

Georgia finished last season 20-14, earning an NIT berth that ended in a second round loss to Saint Mary’s.

“The SEC/Big 12 Challenge is a unique opportunity to showcase our basketball programs. As evidenced this past season, playing the event on a single-date in January puts our programs in the college basketball spotlight,” SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said.
